July ‘JoinMe’ visit to Chelsea Physic Garden

This month’s ‘JoinMe’ visit will be to the Chelsea Physic Garden. Is now scheduled for Sunday 20 July. I propose an itinerary similar to our last visit, but with a 12:30 hours start, as the garden doesn’t open to the public until 11:00 hours and this will allow Brothers to attend Mass first if they wish.

Ticket prices as follows:

£9.90* Adults (including senior citizens)
£6.60* Students, registered unemployed and children (5-15 years old)
FREE to children under 5 years

*the ticket price includes a 10% Gift Aid voluntary donation.

We will meet for coffee in the Café at 12:30, having gained entry individually. About 13:00 hours we will roam the garden as we wish and then return to the Cafe at about 14:45/15:00 hours for a late lunch together. Children are welcome in the garden, see this link. Obviously Brothers and guests can continue in the garden afterwards as they wish, up until closing time at 18:00 hours. If we have a group of eight or more it may be possible to book lunch in advance.

The Chelsea Physic Garden is a quiet oasis in central London. It holds approximately 5000 groups of plants in a collection focusing on medicinal plants and those of ethnobotanical interest, as well as rare and endangered species. They also grow plants named or introduced by people associated with the Garden’s history. The mild microclimate created by the sheltering walls, the river and the Garden’s south facing aspect allows us to grow many tender plants, especially from the Mediterranean region and the Canary Islands. The glasshouses  hold a collection of tropical, sub-tropical and Mediterranean species as well as back-up plants of those grown outdoors that may not survive a cold or wet winter. But mostly, it’s just a gentle and calming place to visit.

The highly-acclaimed, licensed Café serves a range of fresh homemade food including light lunches, and delicious afternoon tea. Enjoy alfresco refreshments on the Terrace or choose to eat inside. All food is freshly prepared on site and served buffet style by a dedicated team.

The nearest tube station is Sloan Square, fifteen minutes walk away and buses 170, 345 and 319 all stop near by.
