A total of 33 Brothers, wives, and clergy gathered at the Windmill on Clapham Common on April 24 for Balham Circles’s annual Clergy Night. The event took on an ecumenical dimension with the attendance also of The Rev Greg Prior, Vicar of Wandsworth, and his wife Judith.
A Circle meeting that beat all previous records for brevity was followed by an excellent meal and much animated bonhomie across the tables. Mgr Gerry Ewing, Mgr Timothy Galligan, Fr Davis Vadakkumpadan, Fr Joseph Owes-Ansah and Fr Deodat Msahala were welcomed at the dinner by President Steve Palmer who thanked them for the hard work they do in their various parishes.
In addition to Clergy, Balham Brothers were delighted to welcome Bill Sathanathan from Wimbledon circle and his wife Helen. There was a real buzz in the room with the usual Balham conviviality. Toasts were drunk to Balham guests, Balham brothers, the Queen and even St George, following one of the best meals the Windmill has ever served for the circle.
The event also marked the end of Steve Palmer’s Presidency: he will hand over to Charles Marriott at the Circle AGM in May. SP & TGB
